Mr George Whipple
Dear Sir:
I have long desired to do something for my people who have been less fortunate than my self, and on receiving solicitations from those who are laboring among them in Norfolk a[nd] Portsmouth, I have concluded to offer my self as a matron and assistant school teacher, and wish to be useful generally[.] My age and responsibility of bringing up and educating a family of my own, should render me somewhat qualified.
For reference please speak to my former Pastor Rev. M. E. Strieby.
My daughter Edmonia G. Highgate is now engaged in the good work.
If my services are excepted please inform me immediately as I must make some arrangmen[ts] about leaving my family.
I should like to go for six months at present and longer if convenient.
Very Respectfully
H. F. Highgate.
address Mrs Charles Highgate
Care of Ira H. Cobb.
