- Description
- Hannah Highgate writes from Darlington, Md., explaining that she delayed sending a recent letter due to the burial of her son. She did not think that she would be expected to go through a formal process of examination and acceptance as a teacher, because her daughters were already A.M.A. teachers. She assures the A.M.A. that any violation of the rules was not intentional on her part.

Rev. Geo. Whipple
I received a letter from Mr. Hunt Sec’y informing me that my letter had been received. It was written some time before I sent it, I delayed it on account of my sons buriel. I was then hurried away frrom home sonner than I expected therefore I did not receive your letter until 31st[.] I was not aware that I was obliged to go through a formal examination & acceptance as my daughter had organized the school and written to appraise you of my desire to take it. If, by so doing I have violated any rule it was not done intetionally. I trust you will overlook that, or anything, that may seem presumtous
Please favor me with answer as soon as convenient
yours truly
