- Description
- Hannah Highgate writes to the A.M.A. from Darlington, Md. She has received no reply to a previous letter she sent. She asks when she will receive compensation for her services, as she will need the money to travel home. The school was recently closed for the berrying season but she has reopened it for two weeks to make up for the time lost to gathering berries. A notation on the letter indicates that she was subsequently sent pay for her last four months of work.

Rev Geo. Whipple
Dear Sir;
I send in my report and a letter on August 1st but have received no reply to it nor was I notified of its reception. Was it recieved? In the letter I stated the no. of books remaining on hand and the no. sold and requested you to please send me compensation for my services here this summer. The people are preparing for a celebration here on the 25th of this month and I would like to leave (after that is) over, as soon as possible. I am depending upon what I shall recieve from you to defray my expenses to my place of destination hence you probably see the necessity of sending it to me at your earliest convenience. You will remember that I told you in my letter that the school was closed for a brief season until the berrying season was over. I have now reopened it for two weeks to make up for the time lost while they were gathering berries.
Hoping to hear from you at an early day I remain
Yours Respectfully
Mrs. H. F. Highgate
