Rev. George Whipple
Dear Sir,
I write to make an application to go South or Southwest as missionary- I have been engaged as teacher for two years and a half among my own people in what might well be called missionary fields of labor[.] I am about twenty years of age and strong and healthy- I know just what self denial, self discipline and domestic qualifications are needed for the work and modestly trust that with God’s help I could labor advantageously in that field for my newly freed brethren- If you wish references, I give you the names of Richard Mater of this place, brother in law of Mr Whiting also, Rev. S. J. May of Syracuse- I am engaged at present as teacher here but I will resign as soon as an opportunity to go south presents itself. Please answer at your earliest convenience and oblige,
Yours for Christ’s poor-
