Rev. M. E Strieby,
Dear Friend:
I thank you for your favor of the 9th. I am pleased with Mr. Whipple's decision relative to the Orphanage. I am very soon to be, as I have not before been, nicely situated in one of the graded schools in Norfolk. I accept the proffered place in place of my own with reference to a way to supply the demands for clothing- Please send to the Amt. of $50.00 in three pices of calico and a piece of unbleached factory, the remander in shoes and shakers white straw. We have found it, after thoroughly testing the question - the better way to receive some little compensation for every article. In fact many of the destitute have, of their own accord offered to buy articles which we expected to freely give. Of course we, give some but in all cases we try to act very judiciously. Please say to Mr. Whiting, that I received a very rich box from the “Cold. Ladies Society in Syracuse. I also received a package of books which I intended to bring with me but which Mr. Whipple kindly forwarded to me. I am very much pleased that you are so circumstanced that you can do more general good for this great cause, but, Mr. Strieby, it seems very strange for me to think of you otherwise than my pastor.
Yours in Christ,
E G. Highgate.
