Rev. M. E. Strieby,
Dear Friend;-
I write to ask you to send me to New Orleans as Miss'y. Asso. employee or (teacher)[.] My mother is scarcely able for me to carry out my former plan in acting as agent. A dear cousin D[?]. B Randolph sails for that city to be engaged in business there on a week from today on a governmental steamer. Now as I must “do or die” for my freed brethren, and as my mother will only consent to the former on the condition that I have someone to make me prudent in what I ought to try to accomplish - will you not send me. I will remain in New York till you return from New Haven. If not please make every effort to enable me to carry out that matter. I am as well as I can be unemployed for the freed millions
Yours very truly,
Edmonia G Highgate
