Sir,
You will please pardon my delay in answering, but the day after I received the Circular, I left the City to attend the funeral of a Friend and have just returned.
I am single, my age is 23[.] I am of delicate organization but healthy, I'm accustomed to teaching 6 hours a day but, have never done any other kind of labor.
My reasons for engaging in this work are viz. My sympathy has always been with the outcast Slave since the dawn of Emancipation. I feel that God calls me to work for them, to devote my time to those, who have so long been trodden under foot, so long born the heat, and burden of the day; so long been denied [rest of text missing]
