Churchville May 16th 1870
Major W. L. VanDerlip,
Respected Sir
Your favor of May 2nd was duly received and I am obliged for the same.
The Trustees and myself have decided to have the meeting on Whitsun Monday (June 6th); that being the Temperance Anniversary Day in this vicinity.
I trust you and the other friends will be with us.
Though we can only accept of a refusal from you [[strikethrough]] only [[/strikethrough]] under imperative circumstances, as your presence is much needed and desired; and will greatly augment the pleasure of those who are interested.
Not knowing Mr. McComas' entire name nor address, I send you his letter, and will be obliged if you will please forward it.
Please send me as soon as agreeable the exact number and names of the visitors, as these enthusiastic people are very susceptible to names and titles.
You will also please remember that the gentlemen from Washington will have to be in Baltimore on the night previous to the meeting so that all may take the 7.20 A.M. train for Philadelphia; procuring tickets for Aberdeen Station: where you will arrive at 9 o'clock and find conveyance to bring you to Churchville.
Yours with respect.
